Snif Teaneck runs a terrific Tu B’Shvat program!

Our growing snif has benefited from many succesful programs in the past few months. Most recently, we welcomed Rosh Chodesh Shvat with an Israeli style Seder Tu B'Shvat, attended by 140 chanichim and their families! The chanichim and their families sat down to beautifully set tables with an array of dried fruits and other foods on which they could make the brachot that would follow over the course of the Seder. Rabbi Pruzansky, Rabbi of Congregation Bnei Yeshurun, where our snif is located, opened the event. Racheli and Zushye, mazkirim of Snif Teaneck, hosted the evening along with help from several chanichim. The chanichim performed skits, introducing the shivat haminim and sang songs, and the crowd joined in for every song! We had an interesting "custom", comparable to the Pesach Seder, of having 4 cups of different colored "wine" (grape juice)—all white, symbolizing winter, mostly white with a bit of red symbolizing the beginning of spring, mostly red symbolizing spring emerging, and finally red grape juice, symbolizing spring's impending arrival and the begining of a new year for the trees! We concluded with a few words from Niva Gurewitsch, mazkirat galil of Galil NY/NJ, and mifkad. After singing Hatikvah, the guests enjoyed a pizza and falafel dinner and ice cream for dessert. Guests walked away with a smile, the chanichim had a blast, and most of all, everyone felt a bit more connected to Eretz Yisrael.
